Man charged with attempted murder after violence at Talbot Green police station

A man has been charged with attempted murder and six other offences following an incident at Talbot Green Police Station.

South Wales Police said "just before 7pm on Friday night, January 31, a man attended Talbot Green Police Station and started damaging police vehicles.

"Officers challenged the man and during a violent struggle three officers were injured.

"Two officers were taken to hospital and received treatment for their injuries. Both officers have since been discharged."

27-year-old Alexander Stephen Dighton from Llantrisant has been charged with seven offences: attempted murder, assault of emergency worker, assault, arson, criminal damage, possession of offensive weapon, and possession of knife/bladed article.

He will appear at Merthyr Magistrates Court tomorrow morning, Monday February 03, at 10am.

Chief Superintendent Stephen Jones said “I wish to thank the local community and the wider public for their support and concern for the officers involved.

"Our officers showed great bravery and quick thinking during the altercation and despite being understandably shaken I am very glad to report that none of the officers involved sustained any major injuries.”
